Welcome to Malacca Historical Places

Now, i want to share about my visit to Malacca Historical Places. Malacca is known for its historical place tourist destination spots with a rich cultural heritage, subsequent to the colonial rule of Portuguese, Dutch and British. All the cultural values in Malacca has been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2008. Let’s discover the magnificence of Malacca!!

Dutch Square

First historical place that i visited is Dutch Square. Dutch Square Malacca also known as the Red Buildings that most attractive along Jalan Kota. You can see a lot of colourful trishaw pickup point and red colonial Dutch buildings that built between 1660 and 1700. Dutch Square Malacca reflects the history of Malacca, that is the Dutch administration which are Christ Church and the Stadthuys was built in 1650 and known as the oldest remaining dutch building in Asia. However in Dutch Square, you also can find British colonisation that is the Queen Victoria’s Fountain.

St. Paul’s Church

After a short walk up to the hills from Dutch Square, it can leads to the St. Paul’s Hills. At there you can see the St. Paul’s Church. Based on the tour guides there, they explained that St. Paul’s Church originally built by a Portuguese captain in 1521. The church was regularly visited by St Francis Xavier, whose marble statue stands in front of the ruin. When the Dutch completed their own Christ Church at the base of the hill in 1590, St Paul’s fell into disuse. Under the British administration, a lighthouse was built and it eventually ended up as a storehouse for gunpowder.

Malacca Sultanate Palace Museum

After visited the church, next place i drop by at the Malacca Sultanate Palace Museum which is at the foot of the St Paul’s Church. The Malacca Sultanate Palace is a replica of the Malacca Sultan’s palace during the Malacca Sultanate period. The palace is the home of the Cultural Museum which celebrates the Malay side of the Malacca’s history. The museum showcases more than 1300 items of Malacca’s past. The items include photographs, weaponry, drawings, musical instruments and gifts from foreign representatives. All these items are displayed in eight different chambers and in three galleries on the three floors of the palace

I also visited the historical monument of Malacca which is the Porte de Santiago commonly known as A Famosa among the locals. The A Famosa is a fortress which was used in the war last time and has many historical values.  A Famosa is one of the oldest surviving trace of European architecture in Asia. Once part of a mighty fortress, this tiny gate called the Porta de Santiago is all that history has saved.

The last historical place that i visited in Malacca is Maritime Museum. One of Malacca’s most tourist-worthy attractions is the half-sized replica of the Portuguese galley, the Flor de la Mar, which is set near the Melaka River. The Maritime Museum was built in 1990 that is home to dated props including old maps, scale model ships, weaponry and nautical related accessories and relics that chronicle Malacca’s history.
